Task: 4d

My focus will be on retaining students interest in Classical Ballet after the age of 14. I will need to be investigating many areas; Students at adolescence years behaviour and social influences ... I finally came up with

Award Title: BA(Hons) Professional Practice in Motivating Adolescent years in Classical Ballet

I'm not sure if this is a little to long.

Can you let me know your thoughts

Thank You :)

Task: 4c

I spoke to a current British Ballet Organisation (BBO) Teacher in a similar social and economic context to my own. She was a colleague at a previous appointment and opened her school 3 years before myself. We discussed about my current issue of retaining students at the age of 14 in classical ballet. Her classical ballet classes are of good size and remain this until around the age of 19. We were discussing different teaching techniques and also different classes that were offered. At her school for example Hip Hop/Street Jazz is not offered but is at my dance school which seems to be the distraction for my students. Many questions have come from this:
1. Do I not educate my students enough about the importance of ballet
2. Do my students know of the benefits of ballet and famous faces in musical theatre that have studied ballet
3. Does TV shows such as 'So you think you can dance' influence my students
4. Does the music used put students of
5. Is the Ballet uniform a reason for them leaving classical ballet
I look forward to researching this further with my professional associate comparing both sets of students and also time-tables and techniques used.

Task 4b

Hi Every one,

I have decided to develop my knowledge in researching the reasons and causes for the behaviour that during adolescence years students at my dance school tend to leave ballet classes to join other forms of dance. hopefullyi will develop enough knowledge to know what action can be taken to improve the attendance. I want to research, discuss and explore issues that are effecting their decision to change from classical ballet. I will be looking at the marking criteria within the examination board, questionnaires, workshop and interviewing a ballet teacher and also education dance. In order to understand effectively the causes for the decline within ballet I need to also research the wider context of teenagers focusing on lifestyle and motivation.

An explanation of factors effecting the decision to continue to study...

I look forward to discussing this further.

Questions!!!!

I have given a lot of thought to which question to further explore and am still undecided which would benefit me the most .... I have looked back at my reflective journal to try to help which direction I should take, I seem to write about both secondary and private sector equally. Both questions have a great importance to my teaching and professional career.
"What did you appreciate about your education and training?”

I am hoping to find out what the advantages and disadvantages are from both different forms of training and if by training only one of the routes can gain a successfully career in dance.

Or

An explanation of factors effecting the decision to continue to study ballet beyond grade 6/7”

I am hoping to find out a way to improve my intake and retain my students in classical ballet more than adolescences years.

If you could let me know your thoughts, I would really appreciate this.
Thank you J

Task 4a: Professional Inquiry

Working within both the main stream and private sector many question emerge daily that would benefit me as a teacher to researcg further
I have decided to keep my options open and look at each section before I decide which one to explore.
My Dance school
Historically within the dance school pupils aged 14 have dropped out of classical ballet classes; this was evident through the register which is completed on a weekly basis at the dance school. Most of these pupils over the last 5 years haven’t left the dance school but have proceeded to enjoy and have furthered their grades in other areas of the dance school curriculum.
1. How to improve attendance with in the dance school during adolescence years?
After reading Jacob's blog this made me thinking, in order to know how to improve the attendence in the future I need to know what their inspiration to start ballet/dance was
2. What inspires a dancer to dance?
3.  Why do pupils leave ballet at the age of 14?
4. An explanation of factors effecting the decision to continue to study ballet beyond Grade 6/7?
5. What influence do parents have over their children at the age of 14?
Main Stream Sector
GCSE dance qualification is equlivant to Grade 5/6 Ballet but this somehow does not seem correct, when looking at the standard of both dancers. Although the main stream sector is student lead enabling pupils to become creative thinkers and independent learners. The private sector is more teacher lead although allowing pupils to become independent learners. I am finding that students from the private sector become more technical and disciplined dancers and continue the private route to vocational schools where main sector become creative and tend to  go to college and university.
1. Does the main stream sector allow dancers to become the best dancers they possible can?
Recently one of my students gained her advance ballet with The British Ballet Organization gaining Distinction she was also studying A Level dance with a teacher with only hip hop knowledge and no experience of any other form of dance. My dance student gained a F.
2. Do dance teachers need to have studied ballet?
3. How can non dance specialist teach dance qualifications GCSE/BTEC A LEVEL dance?
4. success rate from studying dance private sector and studying in a main stream schooling?
