I have found Kolb's learning cycle a fairly simple method of reflection to understand and get involved in, This involves me describing a situation, identifying how I felt or what I was thinking at the time, evaluating the situation including stating what was good and bad about the situation, analysing, concluding and finally creating an action plan as to what i would do differently or the same next time and then applying this.
I enjoy using Kolb's Learning Cycle as this encourages the me to think critically about the situation.
I have found that by reflecting using Kolb's Learning Cycle my ability to problem-solve as improved, I have enhanced my professional self in practice and exploring my view of the world. By slowing down learning, taking more thorough account of a situation(s) it enhances creativity by making better use of intuitive understanding of myself and how i express myself.
I have began to use Kolb's Learning Cycle at the school i teach in as a means of formative and summative assessment which allows students to record their experience and develope learning ways to enhance there learning giving them a better learning experience and deepening the quality of learning, in the form of critical thinking or developing a questioning attitude. I have started this with my year 9 students and is proving to be a success it enables them to understand their own learning process which gives them an involvement in their learning giving them personal ownership of learning.
